Please help me improve MS performance!

Alright, this computer has no viruses or anything. I'm using Avira Home Edition and all I used this computer was for Maplestory and some Mabinogi. Both of them lag a lot. If I have Maplestory running, I can't open FireFox, otherwise I lag to death. I can't even enter the Zakum room before d/c. It lags whenever I start to attack. It's just endless lag and terrible performance and web browsing. I'm thinking it's time to get a new processor and video card. I have, reading from Device Manger, Intel(r) Pentium(r)III 1.01 GHz, 256 MB of RAM and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500. Other specs, please ask if you need them. It's not just Maplestory either, I can't play Halo unless I look at like the edge of a map cause there's nothing much there, I couldn't play this Rise of Nations: Gold Edition, made in 2004 without lag. Now that I think of it, there isn't ANYTHING that runs smoothly. Even Youtube lags. >.< Please help.

Yeah, I looked up the parts and they're from like 2004-5ish. So, I'm assuming it's my parts and now I can convince my dad to let me buy new parts, yes?

How much is the above? Edit: And where could I find these parts? I'm not really a great computer guy. Edit 2: I'm checking eBay. Any other suggestions?

around 400-500 USD newegg.com seems to be popular im in Australia so not too sure where you can get parts

Well, what is your budget and what's the most graphical intensive game you are going to play and at what settings? Crysis? Also you are able to get the computer parts at Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com.

The RAM is only compatible with Macs. I should let you know I'm using a Windows XP and a PC. Edit: I was just wondering if I could get no lag with at least Halo: Combat Evolved, by just upgrading the Processor and Graphics Card.

qwan are you really a girl? if so thats my dream gf a computer enthusiasts.. >.< ontopic, the RAM should work on the mobo, for the OS get Vista 32bit home premium, windows xp is also outdated and uses DX9

You don't have to get the exact same you can get different brands and models. But that should be a guideline as to how much each part is relative to each other if that makes sense. [no use getting a really powerful cpu if the ram is going to bottlenech etc.] your current mobo probably can't support the newer cpu and rams, might not have pcie slots even

Lets just say my only friends are computers.... Since your not going to be able to build the parts together, i'll try find a suitable system from tigerdirect you can buy and it will be ready out of the box

The only character I have left was this character that one of my friends made, so I just used it. lol I really should get a new avatar though. -going to play around with banned story- Also, I'm not a really computer enthusiasts. I just build computer from time to time as a hobby, since I like building things from scratch. Anyways, yeah. I do agree with you. It's most likely better for him to just get a new PC, imo.
