| I really don't see myself making my own money from working for him. Just a little bit of more info: Him and my relatives started renovating and contracting and doing estimates for houses a few months ago. They've been successful and earned at least $2,000 per month, plus their daytime jobs. They only gotta work one to two weekends a month and since they're hardworking they get the job done in less than the given time. My mom got the idea of me working with/for my father ever since I helped him put in the toilet so that: 1. I can rake in a little bit of money for myself to spend. 2. I can actually say "I have a job". 3. In the future I can actually do these thigns to my house instead of hiring a contractor/whatever they are to do it for me. The job isn't a demanding job. Basically you just show up when you have to, and do the best you can do. The most tiring thing I'll probably be doing is lifting 20 pound things which I can easily do with two hands. But now, since my dad is getting the money then distributing it towards the peopel and their hours, it seems kind of like I' just being given an occasional allowance. Tomorrow I start working for him, and will keep working for him until Sunday, the day we expect everything will be done. We both agreed that my pay will be $15/hour. The hours are Friday: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM • 4 hours Saturday: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM • 9 hours Sunday: 12:00 PM - X:XX PM(I state that because we don't know how long it will take to finish. So say for example, we finish at 5:00 PM on Sunday) • 5 hours 4 + 9 + 5 = 18 hours * 15 = $270 in one month In my eyes that's decent. Sure, it isn't the highest rate per month, but hey, I'm makin' money. Also it's a negotiable schedule. If a date doesn't work out for myself OR my dad, we can just reschedule the contracting. A part time job, on the other hand, you gotta show up or you're fired. There's no negotiating unless you book that day off which really is a bad idea if you're just starting. On the other hand, it's on/off. You could have renovating to do on one month, while none for another month. Whereas a part time job is a stable steady flow. Sure, one week you might work a couple hours more than the last one, but you're still making a steady flow of money. A downside to this is I might not be able to book off days due to the fact that I'm just starting. I don't know what to pick! My dad kind of wants me to get a part time job, but that would mean I would miss out on family events. |
