so why are our internet speeds so different? mine: http://www.speedtest.net/result/513303838.png his: http://www.speedtest.net/result/513306256.png edit: we're both on verizon, we're both on dsl, we both apparently pay the same amount per month, and his neighbors are old grannies so i don't think anyone's hijacking his connection

Different plans? Every isp has different speed plans to offer. But .05 is awfully slow.

Yup, different internet connection plans. It's like comparing my bootleg Ultra Lite Internet by Rogers to High Speed from the same ISP Internet provider.

Your router is a factor. Your modem is a factor. Your location is a factor. I have a 7mb plan but my DL speed can go up to 20mb because of my modem. But my upload is severely down. It is around .5mb

new router + modem makes a huge difference, i know from experience :P went from 2 MB to 23 MB :D
