| So a thread I previously posted in (won't mention name) hit me by surprise. Basilers do something BESIDES Maplestory? -insert epic gasp here- So anyway, I noticed some basilers do Martial Arts. Please state what Martial Arts you do, and how long you've been doing it, and if you're bothered, some interesting facts about your Martial Arts/Why you chose it. Just for the heck of it I've been doing Muay Thai for 4 years. Muay Thai has been regarded as the most violent and dangerous Martial Arts in the world, next to Sambo, which is 2nd. |

 | I'm practicing Shuri-Ryu. I've been doing it for 3.5 years now and have the Blue Belt. In my country Shuri-Ryu is only practiced by women as men find the style too soft and it takes much longer to get a belt than in for example Shotokan and Wado Ryu. Shuri-Ryu has a few Katas other styles have too and some Katas that are exclusive to the style, like the Kata Wunsu (Strong Arm Dumping Form), which appears to be a shorter version of Wunsha, three pre-Katas called Taikyoko that are close to the Taikyoku, but not the same. Special about the style is the Shuri-fist, in which the thumb isn't curled around the fingers, but rests against the index finger. Using this fist is dangerous and I'm the only one in my dojo who uses it. Our style involves open hand techniques and Kumite as well as Karate techniques. Street fighting is also a part of it. The belts in my style go like this: white-yellow-blue-green-purple-brown-brown-brown-black (and then 9 more black belts). It takes 1.5 or 2 years on average to get a new belt. My Dojo combines Shuri-Ryu with the Philippo swordfighting style of Modern Arnis, in which we fighy with bamboo sticks and later on with knives. I got my knife a few months ago. Once I've gotten my Brown belt in Shuri-Ryu I'll be taught how to fight with a Bo; a 2 meter long stick. At the moment I'm studying the Kata Anaku; Swallow on the Beach Pivoting and Turning Form. Once I've mastered that I'll learn Kata Naihanshin Sho Back Against the Wall. My favorite Kata is the Wunsu. |

Also, isnt Wing Chun regarded as a Martial Arts for women? I've seen men doing it. And I'm gonna tell the truth here, I actually lost to a guy who does Wing Chun. @above: O__O! Maybe something was wrong with your liver before you entered Muay Thai, or you didn't perform the techniques correctly. I'm guessing after a few thousand knee's to a punching bag really hurts your insides. |

You sir, are very immature. @above: I'm half Thai, and let me tell you, being Thai does NOT contribute. I also understand that that was sarcasm. But still, I lol'd. |

| Wing Chun is that strong, because it's defensive stance can also be used to attack. |

My Sensei said guys find the style too slow and soft. If you check Kata Wunsu on YouTube you'll find two Katas both done by guys. It took the highest Sensei 15 years to get to the second Black Belt and the slightly lower Sensei 10 years to get to her black Belt, but she had some Wado Ryu experience. In the Netherlands girls hardly ever do Martial Arts. I don't know why. :S It's mostly guys and they all seem to do either Shotokan, Kung Fu or what's it called again... with the blue pants. If girls practice Martial Arts they do Tai Chi. I tried Tai Chi when a Tai Chi master from the US visited out Dojo and I only managed to debone the arm of my Sensei. The guest Sensei said my Chi was too energetic. XD |

| Zomguh said: "Wing Chun is that strong, because it's defensive stance can also be used to attack." That's why I back away when someone says they do Wing Chun. Mother -- I dropped my guard for a second and recieved 30 devasting punches to the ribs. I had breathing problems for at least 2 months after. Sigh. @above: LOL. I can see why he would think that. I wouldn't want to do a martial arts that takes at least 10 years to master. Energetic indeed. I have to admit, I also pretty psyched when I go to training. Sparring sessions are awesome, the only part I dislike is the fact that my brother is the teacher, and he makes doubles my training. >< |
