Do people trade items for items anymore?

...since I'm finding it insanely difficult to trade Dex pants that are COMMON for dex pants for warriors. Is there any type of technique to make trading easier? I know this is a weird question I just find it annoying how no-one trades items for items It makes getting scrolled neos items ridiculous :|
