Go for an Epiphone or Ibanez guitar, a great all rounder would be a Fender Stratocaster replica.

I just went to my local guitar store and bought whatever was in my budget and had good specs. The fact that it's in my cupboard since over 3 months is a whole different story

First guitar I bought was a starter kit guitar, comes with instructional DVD, small amp, chord, guitar, guitar book, etc. EDIT: Entire package cost under $200. Once you know you'll start playing more consistently, then look for a better guitar.

Buy something like a Squire for your first guitar, you don't need anything fancy. Squire or Encore guitars are good for begginers and they also normally come in starter kits with amps like the guy above me mentioned.

Lmfao. Tbh buying a good guitar won't make you any better. the only difference is quality. i myself had an Encore for the first 2 years of playing i now have a Fender Startocaster and a Ibanez A Series. But yeah as a begginer get one of those two, the Squire is probably the better option out of the two.
