I bought an open box laptop from newegg, and it just came. It looks like it was owned by some guy for a few days, but he sent it back for some reason. It was very well maintained, and it came with all the instruction manuals, cds, etc., even the backpack. He seemed to know a lot about computers. He had several games on the computer (I just found leftover icons), as well as PC-monitoring applications. What I want to ask is, is there anything I need to do right now? Normally, I'd update all the drivers, delete some bloatware, and get everything in working order. Everything seems to be already done though. I'm trying everything out to make sure nothings wrong, but I've yet to encounter any problems. Again, is there anything I should do?

Calling for Mindstormer is really unnecessary. I'm tempted not to even try to help because of that. Anyways, first off, you should have posted this in non-MS Tech. Also, assuming everything is working, and you checked that drivers and such were installed (which was probably already done by the manufacturer) then until you have a problem, you're probably good.

reformat the entire laptop to run it like new. Most laptop nowadays don't come with a restore or OS disk unless you buy them separately. If you do have it, it should say restore disk or say windows vista/xp, whatever you have. Basically, what it does is wipes everything off the hard drive to make your laptop like new. Make a post if you want to know how to do it. I'll post instructions. This will remove any overlooked or undetected problems prior to the day you bought it.

;_; I guess I'm part of Mindstormer's company. Well, whatever. If I was in your position, I would be quite uncomfortable with a second hand laptop and I'd just reformat and reinstall my OS of choice. But you are not me, the best thing to do would be to run some anti-malware programs, give it a good clean.

I figured reformatting was the best option. I'll probably end up doing that I guess.

Try recovering his deleted files. Not matter how much of an expert he is, you will always be able to find something And Mindstormer knows close to nothing about computers.

It's pretty much agimme to reformatyour computer if there was another user using it. He might hide keyloggers or viruses in the laptop, or even bootlegged resources which could get you in alot of trouble if you're on-the-go with your laptop. This guide might help you reformat your computer: link Remember to do a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows.
