Silver's Guide. Have fun. Hey all! A lot of people have messaged me and other comic makers asking for tips and tricks to making sprite comics. I've decided to make a guide on some of the basics on how I make my comics so all you aspiring artists out there have some guidelines to making your comics at least look nice. WARNING: This is a HUGE guide and requires a lot of reading. If you don't care for "wall of text", just leave now and don't comment that it's too long. Table of Contents The Tools of the trade The Concept stage The Pre-comic stage Time to make your first episode! Saving your comics Uploading your finished work to Basil The Tools of the Trade Before you can even consider making your comic, you're going to need to get your hands on some of the standard comic-making tools as well as get to know them. Here's a list of what you should look for: Bannedstory - This is what you'll use to get your characters and in-game special effects. You may also use it for text bubbles if you want. Perion Corner - This website has various background layers that you can use to make custom backgrounds. Maple Story - If you don't want to piece together your own backgrounds, you can take screencaps in-game instead. MSPaint - Your standard image editor... though it's very basic, it still has a lot of handy features. Paint is a good secondary editing program. Image editing software - Though Paint is handy, you'll still want a better program. The top 3 are Photoshop, GIMP and Paint.net - I use Photoshop. Word Processor or Pen & Paper - You'll want to make a documented storyline and concept ahead of time. Believe me, this is important if you're going to make a large-scale, story-driven comic series. Okay, so... you now have access to most of this... Bannedstory has an online version, by the way, so you don't need to download it. Now, you'll want to get to know your software... practice with Bannedstory's creation tools, how to copy sprites and how to save the images you make. Practice the tools in MSPaint and whatever other editing program you have. If you're using Perion Corner for backgrounds, practice making proper layered backgrounds that look like they may come out of the game somehow. Once you have some knowledge of the tools, you're ready to start your first comic. The Concept Stage This is one step that many people overlook and it's one of those "make or break" moments for your comic. You need to think about your comic ahead of time - building on the fly can cause slip-ups and bad writing... or just a very bland, unfunny, boring or stupid comic. For just one simple comic strip, you'll just want to think of the set-up and punchline for the comic. For major story-driven comics, however... you'll actually want to write a mini-story ahead of time. The mini-story is basicly a list of plot points in the comic you want to get to as the comic progresses. For example, let's make a concept for some kind of tournament comic: Tournament anno

Etokapa said: "In the "File" menu in Photoshop, there is an option called "Save for Web". Click this and you'll be taken to a new window that has it's own "save" buttons and such. Make sure that you see "JPEG" as the save type before you continue. What we're looking for right now is a little button near that "save" button that looks like a small circle with an arrow in it.. it looks a bit like this: (>). Click this button and choose "Optimize for file size". When you select this, a small window opens that has a text field with a prompt for a "Desired File Size". Now, if you chose 250, it'll be just over 250,000 bytes... so go a bit lower... either 245k or 240k will be just fine. Click "Ok", then press the "Save" button on the window. Now, you can save a copy of your image as a high-quality .jpg, but it won't be larger than Basil's size limit!" This part of his guide needs to be updated to the 300k limit. D:

Use this comic for reference on how it should look Epic right? Seriously though =P I didn't really read many guides (except shading ones) But first just think of a good idea and make the comic around it. You'll need Bannedstory but other than that I don't have alot of advice except try your hardest.
