So I've notice between the speed of maple of my aunties computer and my house computer. I've notice that my aunties internet is very slow, while her maple is really fast for some odd reason. My house internet is also slow, and maple is really bad, it lags, and cant stand certain amount of minutes( I will d/c every 20~25 minutes) But i notice that my aunties computer has nothing on the desktop, as my household computer has alot of crap like sports pictures, and bodyboarding pictures( Im a real big sports fan :D and loves to Bodyboard.) so my question is that if i delete everything on my desktop, run a virus check, will my maple run fine? both my aunties and household computer was made in 2002, and her's is a Hp, and mines is a dell. Explain please thanks

Um. Just close the processes you don't need. But run a virus check 100%.

Could also be the amount of CPU power, if your aunt's computer has more processing power, then it will always run faster, to check this, right click on "My Computer" and click properties on both computers, and if your Aunt's is higher, there is why.

maybe you got a trojan, try virus scan, then defrag and cc your computer =S and also try to close any processes that you don;t need

Kauai808 said: "Lol how do i format my pc? sorry im a noob at computers haha" NOTE : the following is extracted from some random basiler's post, i had no idea how to reformat. 1. Make sure you have your operating system cd ie. Windows XP/ME/MCE/98 etc. (If your computer is from a major computer company you should have this) Also make note of all the devices you have. *this is considering you have high speed internet not dial up...Make sure you know what kind of network card you have before going through this. Download the driver from the manufacturers website and save it on some sort of portable media ie cd-r, usb flash drive, external hard drive etc. You will need this in order to get back on the internet to download the rest of your drivers. *the rest of this info will pertain to windows operating systems only 2. Insert the cd into your cd drive. 3. Reboot the computer. 4. The cd should boot and you will see a windows setup screen. 5. There will be an option to format your hard drive and delete partitions. You want to choose delete your partitions first then format. There will be 2 options quick format or I think it was a full format or something like that. If you don't want to wait hours for the full format I suggest you do a quick format. 6. Then the setup screen will take you through formatting and afterwards the cd will run and take you through the steps of installing windows again. 7. Next install the network card driver that you saved. 8. Now you can get back on the internet and go to each manufacturers website for your hardware and download the drivers for them accordingly.

Well, if you just have a blank background, the speed of the cpu increases a little. Also, you can deactivate the Screen Saver.

A reformat is not always the best solution. Maybe turning off unrequired programs, and check how much RAM your auntie has. The problem may be because of location. Do you live closer to the city?

HP is always better than DELL, DELL was made for school computers, businesses, and regular activities. Personally i dont think Maple will change just cause if you have tons of pictures. Formating might do a tweak, and also use game booster to help (heard about it in another topic)

its not just your desktop, get rid of all junk files (ie. temporary files, history etc) and also shutdown un neccisary processes at the moment like microsoft updates. i knw your noob at computers so the people that make defraggler has aprogram that can help you just google it.

Could be your Processor or RAM usage. A format and/or disc defragg will help, but if it's your processor you might want to change it.
