What's wrong with dog meat? (not parody)

When people usually hear 'eating dog', they cringe in disgust, but why? It's just a different type of meat that you haven't tried yet. It's served like beef or pork, fully cooked, without the little paws/head/tail etc. If you fed dog to a person who hasn't had it before and told them to guess if it was beef, pork, or chicken, they would probably guess "beef" but add that it was more chewy. They wouldn't spit it out or throw up, just eat it. I don't see why eating dog is usually looked down upon in America.

America sees dogs as a pet, a man's best friend, but people that eat dog see dogs as just another animal. I don't see what's wrong with eating dogs.

Well.. people don't really get close to pigs or cows and stuff. Some Americans have dogs that they consider" Family" I personally don't prefer to eat dog. But I'll eat it if you don't tell me what it is.

It's frowned upon as an "uncivilized" and "inhumane" act. You had Spikes since he was a puppy, and after many years of companionship, Spikes becomes the main course? I'm sure the rebuttal for this would be: "but there are also stray dogs." My response for said rebuttal would be: the more reason why they shouldn't be eaten, rabies/diseases.

Because people see dogs as pets and consider them closer than most animals. Same applies to cows, pigs, etc. on farms. Some people who raise their own cattle, swine, etc. can't eat them because they grew attached to them. I would never eat dog, though. I have dogs myself, and eating dog would make me think of eating my own dogs.

Mostly because of the whole "Dogs are man's best friend" idea that was stretched out, and emotional attachment. Personally I have no qualms to eating a dog, even though I've had many as pets before.

Because dogs aren't meant to be eaten? Dogs are pets- not food. If you got some spare time- go and breed dogs so they become big and look like cows. Till then- ill stick to normal meat.
