So a lot of my friends on Facebook are going "Omg Michael Jackson, RIP. We love you and we'll miss you so much. You'll be in our hearts forever." or something of the sort, when I remember every single one of them cracking up a MJ joke at some point. Is it just me or is that being really... well, fake? I know you should respect him and go all "We love you, RIP" when someone dies, but I'd feel guilty for doing that. Why? Because practically everyone around me made fun of Michael or laughed at him when he was alive, but saying "I'll miss you" now, it feels like... Fake? I guess I DO want to say all that, but ... Oh. I found the word. It feels like I don't have the right to say it. It's sort of like, I laughed at MJ jokes when he was alive, and now he's gone, I don't have the right to miss him even if I want to. It makes me mad that those people on FB think they have a right to say those kinds of things, when they were making fun of him not even weeks ago. I don't hate him, really. But I've always been the kind of person to realize how great something is only after it's lost. And now, I don't think I'm good enough to say those cheesy things. But one thing I have to make clear before you guys call me troll or call me hater or something, I don't hate him. I never did. I disrespected him before, I'll be honest, but I don't hate him. The reason I'm on basil, is to ask if you guys err... know what this feeling is? o.O And do you guys feel the same? :<

I'll admit I used to make fun of him but I was real immature, this is a sad event. You never speak ill of the dead and you especially mourn the death of that huge star.

I agree. I never particularly liked him, or his music, so I see no reason to shower him with love and praise just because he's dead. Offer your condolences, but don't pretend to have always loved him if you didn't. that's just sickening.

Well, looking beyond his criminal charges, he did a lot for this country. He became something that, in his time, was unheard of. He was an African-American growing up in the civil rights era, in which African-Americans were disrespected. Despite the racism, so many people loved him and his music (and the same for all five children when they performed together). He was one of the few at the time to break the color barrier. And while I agree that he's done wrong, he's also done good in his prime years. I've always found it saddening when people make fun of him, let alone anyone. I was saddened by it before this point, and even after it. Needless to say, he's become quite the historical figure. He's almost like a modern Elvis case, or at least it's looking to be that his death will be remembered in a famous way like Elvis's death. First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcet, now this. Is this celebrity death row or something? o__O AndySonSon

Psh, people are butthurt. I've been a fan for the better half of my life, and I've made MJ jokes. Some of them do take it too far, and right after he died is...kind of a bad time, but still, they're just jokes.
