Sadly, the best answer is "very carefully" there's 3 versions, all 3 are as hard as any late game jump quest.

How about- start a mini-dungeon quest, get "Agent-O's Encouragement" (+20 Jump for 30 Minutes), THEN go do the Watermelon quest..? I haven't tried that myself yet (don't tell Agent O, he thinks I'm busy killing Sand Rats at the moment), but on my mages it's going to be tough jumping those hogies.

When you get to the top you have to HIT the big watermelon until it drops, then pick it up normally.
