Get a Butterfree for Brock. Don't worry, none of his pokemon have rock-type moves. Just be careful of Onix's Bide.

I'm not sure if there was certain conditions to getting Bulbasaur but in like 50% of my playthroughs it was impossible to get bulbasaur. @Above - Bulbasaur is in Cerulean, Charmander is north of it and Squirtle is in Vermillion.

You can get them in it without trading? EDIT: I googled it and Charmander - When you're in Cerulean City, go up the Nugget Bridge. Then go to the top left corner. You will see somebody standing there. He will ask you to take care of his Charmander. Say "Yes" and you get Charmander. Bulbasaur - Again, when you're in Cerulean City, go to the house to the left of the Pokemon Center. Go to the lady and she will ask you to take care of Bulbasaur ONLY if Pikachu is very happy. Say "Yes" and you get a Bulbasaur. Squirtle - Go to Vermillion City. Now go to the lower-middle part of it. You will see somebody standing there. She will tell you that she has a misbehaving Squirtle and she wants an experienced trainer to take care of it. Defeat Lt. Surge (3rd gym leader) then talk to the person you talked to before. She will ask you to take care of Squirtle. Say "Yes" and you get a Squirtle.
