HP/MP Gain for lvl, Why?

Why is it that I met a sin my lvl with same exact stats but when he takes off his equips, his hp and mp is still slightly higher than mine? Since we both add dex and luk, which both doesn't affect hp gain (unlike str and int which affects HP/MP respectively), shouldn't we have the same HP/MP? So, the main question is, do str/int equips allow you to gain more HP/MP when worn during leveling? Thanks.

He leveled up with MW possibly, which increases it. INT equips allow you to gain more MP when you level.

INT equips get you more MP than you, but the HP/MP per level up is random.

STR does not affect HP upon leveling. INT affects MP upon leveling.

Although most people believe otherwise, STR does NOT affect HP, but INT (WITH equips) DOES affect MP.

Just because you are the same level doesn't mean you get the same hp. When you level, you gain a random number between 18-20 if I'm correct. So, you wont have the same hp.

Wow really? But he has like almost 70 MP more than me. He wasn't wearing much INT either (besides a +3 INT helm). Does that mean MP gain is also random like what natedoggydog says?
