| This is my single story for the night. Please post opinions and corrections. ~Enjoy~ To Be and Abide The whole world was behind glass to him. Or rather, he was behind glass to the whole world. The glass was never really an impediment to him, and usually it acted as a safety barrier. He liked to watch the world. A great many things happened in the world that he didn't want to be involved in. The world was a violent place, and he didn't want to get hurt. The world was an unfortunate place for many, and he didn't want to test his luck. The world was to overwhelming for him, and he didn't want to collapse in it. That was all until he saw the world. When he finally saw the world, he wanted to be part of it. He wanted the love of an other person, he wanted the serendipity of grace, he wanted life. But he couldn't have it. He felt the sun's rays, but was never burnt by them; he saw the lovers cry, but it never meant anything to him; he saw the water splash, but was never refreshed by it. He began pounding on the glass barrier in utter anguish. He pounded on it for days until the bones in his hands were broken, and blood was dripping profusely from them. He then collapsed in front of the barrier and slept for three days. He rose again after healing to pound again on the glass. The glass shook, the glass wavered, the glass shattered, the glass was no more. He lives. |
