Governor Schwarzenegger Jeopardizing the Cal Grant

I have received a message in my college e-mail today saying that our California Governor is going to eliminate the Cal Grant. As a student who is entering college I find this very threatening especially since I am a low income student. How do you guys feel about this and what should we do about it? btw, i have already sent a message to our gov about my complaint so no, "yea talk to basil about this. /end sarcasm." and its other alterations please. remember, this is just a proposal, so it has not been set in stone yet. if you want to contact Governor Schwarzenegger link and my source link i know may 28, 2009 is a lil late and some of you have already heard about this, but i have just recently found this out via college email.

hey comon man this is serious. low income students need that money or else we would have to pay it in loans. this ranged from $1551 to $7k in loans for one year. then you multiply that by 4 years in college, then that comes out to be a lot.

well, even if the dems arent going to approve of it, we should still send a message to our gov to make sure. this is huge for me and low income college students.

Bottom line. That's saving 200 mil. There are other ways to get an education. And college isn't even really a necessity.

Not that it's the majority, but it's still a lot, surely even to the colleges.

There are other ways to get money for college then asking the state for a handout. I know people working two jobs. They aren't getting state money. If you want to go to college, work for it. Are their better ways? Sure. I'm not saying this is the greatest way ever invented. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

Bobby Jindal is doing something similar in Louisiana. He's lowering the funding for the TOPS program. It's a state scholarship program where a student gets a scholarship if he gets above a 2.5 GPA and an additional one if he gets a 3.0 GPA. But yeah, he's not removing the program as a whole but cutting the funding in half = smaller scholarships. I feel for you guys.
