And nothing is there to hear it, does it make a sound? I say no, since sound is "Waves of energy which is percieved by a organism" (which has the capability of percieving sound). If nothing can comprehend the waves of energy as sound, then the tree is only creating waves of energy. I dunno, probally stupid thought.

It makes a sound. Since sound is created by waves of motion moving through the air or other medium, when the tree falls, it would hit the ground. The tree hitting the ground causes a vibration in the air and in the ground, and this vibration creates the waves moving through both the ground and the air. Short Answer: It makes a sound, no matter who is or isn't there to hear it.

Sound isn't us hearing, Sound is pretty much the different waves of vibrations sent through a medium, if two forces are applied together, such as a tree hitting the ground ( With the help of gravity ), vibrations are created and as long as there is a medium for them to travel through, Sound occurs. If a tree falls in space, hits a comet, you wont here a thing.

For there to be sound there has to be 3 things 1) source (which is the tree) 2) a medium of transmission (air i guess) 3) a receiver. So if no one is there to hear it then technically it did not make a sound since there was nothing to receive the sound.

The definition of sound is: "a travelling wave which is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard, or the sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such vibrations" Therefore, by that definition, if you can't hear it, it doesnt create sound. It only creates vibration and energy.
