hello... i'm a 93 outlaw. here's what i have in SP atm: - 20 burst fire - 1 gaviota - 9 flamethrower - 25 ice splitter - 1 homing beacon - 14 sp available i'm training on red kent atm. when i tried using flame on blue kents and other fire-weak monsters i was actually a little disappointed that i wasted SP on flame, it's so incredibly underwhelming. i think i must not be using it at the right place? but gaviota seems equally pointless aside from being a requirement for a 4th job skill (it has to be at least level 15 is that right?). i guess homing beacon is the last thing to be maxed (has to be max for a 4th job skill right?). so i have a few questions: - i'm worried that if i don't put more SP into flame, i'll really regret it as a corsair. maybe there's nothing out in GMS atm, but maybe it helps in time temple? if not, where _is_ flame good at? seems like filler to me - have any of you maxed gaviota? is it any good? is gaviota completely replaced by air strike? and there's no point in maxing it because you're just going to replace it with air strike anyway right? - so maybe i should just max homing beacon early (i know i know, the guide writers must be laughing) because of the increased one hit damage? surely the damage from maxed homing beacon is better than the crappy damage from flame? and i have to max homing anyway, whereas flame can be left at whatever... and i'm probably going to max ice. yes yes, i know it's a lot less % than flame. but i never use flame. so i'd rather have the few extra hundred damage than have 0 extra damage. just seems logical to me. i'd appreciate your thoughts.

Go to Blue Kent and use Flamethrower..You'll see how overwhelming it is

@ishootyou, @layfon: who said anything about using flame at red kent? all i said was that i train at red kents. obviously i use ice at red kent. even when i tried training in cwk or other places in leaf on fire-weak monsters (ie, blue kent) the damage from flame absolutely sucked . yes it's only at level 9, but come on, it's not going to be THAT much better by level 20+ is it? my point is that i don't want to bother putting SP into something that i never use. @chaos: forgot about octos. thanks for the reminder

flame is nice at nightshadows at a higher level other than that its utterly useless because torp > cooling/FT combo in 4th

@xxmasterxx: i tried it. at level 9 i was doing ~650 max. with a capsule that'd be around 1300. and i suspect around 2-2500 if it was maxed. i'm doing around 3k+ with ice, so maybe fire would be similar damage. but why put points into flame when i can just train on red kent with ice? not being a smart aleck i just don't understand why people suggest maxing it and maxing it early... @ishoot: well, that makes about the most sense i've heard -- that it's the only fairly useful skill left. @danny: so you're sure that it serves no real purpose in 4th? i mean, there's no fire-weak monster in time temple or leaf that u train on regularly in 4th?

jj22 06/10/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
its not that its useless in 4th, its just the fact that it becomes obsolete due to torpedo but either way, you dont max torpedo for a little bit into 4th job so FT is still useful to have in certain situations but for the most part you will be training with cannon
Freezing 06/10/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
theres an ice part in time temple and a flame part. So you could prob use them there.

[quote=toytrucks @danny: so you're sure that it serves no real purpose in 4th? i mean, there's no fire-weak monster in time temple or leaf that u train on regularly in 4th?[/quote] torpedo's probably still better despite fire-weakness (it usually means ice resistance 2, rite?)

Freezing said: " fire is still good because of it poison sort of effect and its slighty stronger than ice" It's easier to just kill it with Torp. then wait for the Flame effect to damage it.
