Okay, before posting, read my points, thanks Topic: Donating to starving children in Africa. I honestly think we shouldn't, do you know why? Okay, first of all, sometimes the charities use a portion of the money we send, so it's not all going to them, so the best thing you can really do is send food. And anyway, why should we care? This may sound really selfish, but think about it. We send like $100 over to them and it may give them a place to live but seriously, they may die of malaria anyway, we aren't really extending their lives by much, and if so, it's not like it's going to be an enjoyable one, they starve and torture themselves by walking miles just to get food and water, why not put a suffering thing out of it's misery, rather than letting it live longer through the pain? And also, even if we all donated $100 to all of them, I still highly doubt it will spread around to all of them, there are millions of children dying and what's the purpose of saving 100 or 200? They may be grateful but they're still going to die soon anyway, they don't have a lifespan as long as ours, their environment is harsh and will probably kill them. Why do we need to donate to a lost cause? They aren't going to benefit us in any way, and please, think about that, seriously, in the end it's only yourself, and no amount of money you donate to some child you don't even know is going to help in the long run. And how do we even know if this money would help them? It could be wasted on some shot that comes from a dirty needle that eventually ends up killing them. Also, why do you think they're there? Everyone has a choice to let a problem carry on, or to solve it. We were all equal once, when we were cavemen, we all had a choice to survive or to be lazy and not do anything eventually leading to death. Somewhere along the line there was a mistake, whether accidental or on purpose, and with a mistake there is a consequence, that's the harsh reality. It's their fault for staying in the harsh regions of Africa and not moving to the better places, (please don't take this as racism, there are very modern places in Africa where people live like people in American cities.) And the sad thing is, with every generation born, they all get less and less choices, unless we somehow move all the dying African children to places where they can survive, I really don't think any amount of money can help them. Throwing money at a dying African child won't help, no matter how much you try, why waste it when you can spend it on something that will actually help you rather than just a momentary good feeling. If you want to donate, that's fine, this is just to the people who donate because everyone else is doing it. You don't have to help people for a reason, but you shouldn't help people because others give you a reason. Replies Hmmm... I'm getting alot of angry responses. This thread was ment to be a discussion/debate, but if you can't handle the fact that other people have opinions and res

I agree with the money part, all that talk about giving every cent you donate goes straight to the people in need but they take a large portion of it. Instead of donating money, I'd donate cans of food like soup and spaghetti. What's the charity gonna do? Throw it away, if that's the case then might as well just give it to the kids in Africa.

I always thought this too. These people and their commercials, and it's usually a rich celebrity hosting these commercials. Just 10 cents a day will only help them live longer in a place they don't even like to begin with. I say either A. Get them out of there or B. Get them out of there. One part of a commercial actually had them talking to two kids who lived alone. I don't think it went much further than an interview. zerascream: I'm sure you heard about hurricanes and how they rescue and evacuate people before and after it hits. The same works here. Just get these people out of these hellholes.

This makes absolutely no sense at all. It's not like you can only donate to a charity that provides food to third world countries. What you can donate on, for example, is scientific research in genetic manipulation. They can create more nutritious foods with better resistance to insects and diseases. (example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_rice) You call people in third world countries "a lost cause". Sorry but what the f*** is wrong with you? You are basically saying that we should just let them rot in their own place and pretend as if they don't exist? If Bill Gates spends nearly a billion dollars on projects/ charities that improve the life of people in third world countries, why wouldn't it help, like you say? Do you really think Bill Gates, one of the richest people on the planet, is that stupid? Just do your studies before you make such an idiotic thread it doesn't make sense at all, and if you couldn't tell it really pissed me off because it is you kind of people that deserve to witness what those people go through every day. Maybe THEN you will change your mind.

Interesting topic... I think money is useless. Like someone already mentioned, food and shelter is more meaningful. About the part why some of the africans rean't moving to the city, well maybe because it's harder to survive there? I suppose you need some kind of education to find a decent job there (ok unless they all go to fast food/restaurants... Money can still help them, the charity group builds schools and hires teachers, finds doctors to cure some of the diseases... I don't find donations useless. People should donate more often! If I'm able to get rich later, I'll donate for sure, and if I ever become a millionaire I will help with the building of clean hospitals, better houses and schools. ~Bottom line: Some charity group should just give them proper food, water, shelter, and education. Then money comes after. We should help each other. Help with the unfortunate. Oh, if you ever get cancer or some kind of incurable disease, are you just gona sit in a corner and wait for death? Don't think so. That's why humans offer help, even if you're going to die.

link :[ Just think about it -- more. The photographer who took this picture committed suicide after coming to the realization that he can do nothing about it. He was waiting for a better moment to take the picture, he was waiting for the vulture to spread its wings. And the vulture was waiting for the child to die, so it could feast on him.

I can see why u think this way, but it is the western civilization who developed faster then anywhere else on the world, went to countries/continents like these, and kindof surpressed the people there. Dont say they had a choice, they never had the chance to develop because of people from europe who went there and basicly "stole" everything, such as the available raw material there. "We" screwed them over and are a part of the cause many years ago, so why not try to be part of the solution now?

although you MIGHT get flamed by other people for your opinions, i strongly agree with your post, ideas and opinions however, we should donate canned food instead of money cos those charity people are sorta shifty >.>
