Rant about the saying "It's a small world"

There's actually a little bit of backup story to this; From 3rd to 8th grade I was best friends with this kid Stephen. His sister's name is Katrina (which we called Beke for some reason and I don't know why I'm telling you this). She's 2 years younger than myself. Anyways, they had moved when I was in 9th grade and I didn't talk to them since. I recently added his sister on facebook and we would talk every once in a while. Meanwhile in a movie-like subject/time change which will make sense in the end... A few years ago I had friended this guy named Mark on myspace. We talked a bit and stuff, and when I had gotten my facebook I added him as well. We would talk on and off and such but we never really met in person either. He is graduating this year and his prom is tomorrow. He's angry because his group backed out on their party bus and wrote a note about it on his facebook. I commented, and somehow Stephen's sister commented on it as well, even though neither of us know this kid in person. So she says; "Wow, this is such a small world, it's so weird that I keep seeing you in random places!" No. Just no. First off, you keep seeing me on facebook. That has nothing to do with the size of the world since (A) the internet does not exist in a geographical "space" and (B) the phrase is normally used in a real life situation, not over the internet. Secondly, this does not constitute a small world. The high school you attend, the high school the guy attends, and the high school I attended are all within 20 miles. 20 miles is not a big part of the total space on the globe. No, you see, it would be a small world if I had moved to the middle of Russia without telling anyone and you guys both magically moved into the same city. That would be a small world. In fact I could drive to your house right now within a good ten minutes just to prove that it is not a good time to say "It's a small world" when you live only miles away from the person you're telling it to. Maybe that's just me.
