If you're a hardcore Christian or any other religion, and easily offended about it, please turn back now. Thank you. P.S. Wall of Text ahead? Ok, so, I was born into a Christian Catholic family, enrolled into a Catholic school, and forced to believe in things I didn't really know the meaning to. When I was about in 7th grade (I'm a soon-to-be Senior in high school, now), I realized how pointless it was to be doing these things. Things like going to Church, praying, following these "Commandments," and even taking a Religion class. I realized that I didn't need to know these things to stay alive. Besides, how do we even know a God is out there? How do we even know that this "God" we've been "praying" to can't even hear us? All of these "miracles" that may supposedly happening are just a matter of luck or chance. What's the point of this "Communion?" This "bread of life." You're supposedly eating Jesus' "body." Apparently, you have to enter God's house every Sunday for like the rest of your life. I find it so stupid. Now, my mom is like a super Christian. She must ALWAYS go to Church, must ALWAYS pray, and she like lives and breathes off Communion. Whenever I wake up late on Sunday or I refuse to go, she like throws a tantrum. She screams at me and everything. Whenever something bad goes wrong, she always says it's because "I didn't pray." Or, if she has a "feeling" something bad is going to happen she always makes me and my sister pray. She would say something like, "Oh, blahblahblah is going to happen, I need you two to pray for me." I'm just like "Who effing cares?" and my sister just agrees, but she really doesn't. Communion. If we like miss a Mass, my mom gets all pissed because we "missed the Communion." Again, I really want to tell her that she's like not even worshiping the religion anymore but more of this flattened bread. It's just so.. GAH. When I had Religion classes at my old school, and there was like a test that I failed, my mom would always bug me with things like, "You should know this! You were born into a Catholic family! How do you not know this? It's so easy!" I really just want to scream to her face, "DO YOU NOT SEE THAT I DON'T BELIEVE IN THIS?" I can't because: A. It's rude. B. Screaming at your parents is disrespectful C. I've made her cry once, and I really don't want to do it again. I've tried to lightly imply to her that I don't, I guess it just doesn't click. I'm surprised she even accepted the fact that I'm gay, despite the fact of her believing so much in Catholicism. She knows where every single verse is in the Bible. I'm just like, "How many times have you read this?" Sometimes, I just want to smack her in the face with how religious she is. Long-story short: TO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE LIKE "too long;didn't read" aka SUMMARY I'm going to be a confirmed Catholic, if I don't keep making up excuses. I barely believe in the religion, my mom is like hardcore Christian. Should I just tell my mom the truth, or keep making up ex

I'd tell her. If you plan to communicate with her, at least. If not, then attempt to bypass it till you move out.

What's so bad about being a Catholic? Do you have to go to church? *I dont understand religion don't blame me for being dumb *

It's always tough talking to parents like that... I wold write a letter and mail it to her, and stay at a friend's house for a few days and let it sink in.

Everything doesn't make sense to me, that why I don't believe in it as much. Maybe I should go find Jesus >_> Believe it or not, sometimes when I'm shopping for groceries alone, some middle-aged women tell me to find God in myself, and stop "spending my free time with the devil." Do I really look that evil? @humankiller0 I really don't even know what the difference is =/ It's just so confusing. @Omegathorion That's a great idea. But usually when I do that, she screams at me when I get home. That's how I told her I was gay..

Tell her. I converse with my mother about my religious skepticism all the time. It's easier than it looks.

I'm a firm believer in the Bible, so if you need anything/ any questions answered just let me know.

just ask her: WWJD? would he scream at me like you are?
SeniorSuave May 30 2009 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
@angramainyu That would really work if my mom didn't always have to be "right" every time. Even when she's wrong, she switches everything around so it makes her sound like she's right. Then you can't counter it back, left just to agree. @Lostinthezoo I don't even know if I believe in God at all. @humankiller0 I really don't know if there are any questions. I know what everything does and all. Like Reconciliation, Eucharist, etc. I just don't seem to find a reason for doing it. Like, what's the point? @bananango I have asked her WWJD, she found it insulting ._. I'm just like, "It's a question. Are you gonna answer it or not?"

LimusocoBoboEh, I hate to bring up the "treat others as you would want to be treated," but I think that somewhat applies here. Imagine, seriously imagine, that you are a parent. Your son, your beloved son that you've loved and have proudly raised as an atheist, is now telling you that you're going to go to hell. Yes, your son believes that you are ridiculous for not believing in God. He reveals to you that most Sundays he's been sneaking out with the neighbors to go to church and now he's becoming a confirmed Catholic. He honestly thinks that you're going to burn in hell for not going to church, for not believing in the Bible, and, most importantly, for not believing in God. He tells you that unless you change your evil ways today, you will lead a pointless life that will do absolutely nothing for you in the afterlife. You will be doomed to Hell, which, at some point, you will be eradicated with the other wicked souls that chose not to follow God. How does that make you feel?

People got to believe in something so they created a omnipotent being. The commandments are okay, IMO they are basic for the society's moral. But being forced? LOL That's ridiculous, just pretend you're catholic then when you go out from home forget about it

I feel pretty bad =/ But, I'm not telling my mom that she should go to Hell or anything. All I want to tell her is that I'm not sure if I believe in this religion or any religion. I just want to tell her that I don't want to be confirmed, and when I think I'm ready for it (whenever that may be) I will be.
Peregrin 05/30/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Peregrinreligion is not just about believing god and worshiping him and praying etc... Religion provides a reference for basic human morality : e.g. dont kill, dont lie, help each other, be happy and thankful to people I personally don't know if God exists or not. I do pray sometimes, but i'm not that dedicated. I'm only attracted to the moral face of religion, not that much to the stories (although those stories are interesting ways of expressing morality). You'll see, i know at the moment it's frustrating because you see all that useless, but think about it ... religious people tend to be nicer ? don't they ? Well, if this is the wrong word, don't you feel like you've accomplish something good when you help someone ? When you for example give money to a poor ? That feeling of "goodness" is in my opinion derived from the fact that we all share a certain human morality, and that because of that we act as good people (at least for the people who respect that morality). So to answer you're question, whether to tell your mom or not, well, that doesnt really matter i think. If you really don't understand the point of religion, then i suggest you wait a bit and more importantly: Give it a try. Give yourself in just to see. But if you don't want to, then you should tell her calmly and politely that you're not THAT dedicated, even then, you would still go to the mess etc ... and most important value the morality you get out of those sessions.
