Im kinda getting of people making new posts everyday regarding this error without using basil search to see if such topics may already exist, which they do. Obviously. What causes this error? Your graphics card may either be Uninstalled, Incomplete, or have errors. This may also occur if you do not have the proper verson directx installed to your computer or it is also incomplete or have problems with it. What can solve this error? Simply find an up to date driver from your cards manufacturers website, and install it. If you do not know what graphics card you have you can find out by going to desktop properties, settings(it may have it next to ur monitor name, if not click advanced and choose the adaptor tab) the details u need will be right there. You can also find out by going to start>run>type: "dxdiag">and select the display tab. Other ways would be going to ur device manager...either ways are fine. Make sure you choose the correct driver, most manufactors like nvidia have a search function that finds out what driver u need but u should always make sure its the correct driver for ur system and newer than ur previous driver. If you already have a graphics driver and suspect it could be damaged or incomplete, u must uninstall it before reinstalling the new one to ensure a proper installation...Your windows will end up in its lowest display after uninstalling and restarting so make sure u already have the new driver ready for setup to make it easier.(surfing the web for drivers is rly annoying on low display settings and its even more annoying and more difficult if u have an older displaycard) Heres more in depth instructions on how to instal ur graphics drivers: link IMPORTANT NOTE If when you instal the new graphics and it makes ur display worse, simply go to device manager.(control panel>system>devicemanager>double click the right displaycard and choose driver>rollback Or u can go desktop properties, settings, advanced, adaptor, properties, rollback) the driver might have been incompatable with ur system and u have to find a different one probably from a later date than the one u just tried or perhaps u got the model wrong. Some display drivers can be difficult to find. if u find out the model u need u can find most drivers for anything here link just make sure it has a good rating to ensure safety. if u cannot figure it out u can always PM the model u need(name of ur adaptor and version) and i will personally help find one. Still doesnt help After u install a new graphics, u should no longer recieve this error when tryin to play maplestory. if by chance u still do, it could be an outdated directx. It has little to do with DirectX or video cards. That error is essentially an unknown error and can be caused by anything not specified by any data in your MapleStory folder.

The error actually belongs to a series of errors that go something like -2xxxxx+ Lil was known about this error until recently when more and more people began to have it. when i would google a solution, id find only hacking websites and people claiming it was due to editting your maplefiles. However, upon further investigating and even getting the error myself i found that this specific number relates to your graphics card and directx. I have already verified this. Every single person i helped solve this error for, (including a ton of pple on basil and people i kno irl) that had this error, solved it by re-installing or updating their graphics card or updating directx. One person i kno even reinstalled there OS and forgot to install their graphics driver and got this error when they tried to load the client. They updated directx without fixing it and then checked their graphics to find that it was still uninstalled. once they installed it, they no longer recieved this error. Even i have had this problem. updated my driver and it was fixed. if by chance this doesnt solve someones problem, there could be an underlying problem in their system or with their maplestory in which case id suggest reinstalling ms or contacting support. someone else i was helping did this and couldnt solve the error however was also getting another error(their ms file ended up being currupted) in which case they reinstalled a clean ms and both errors we gone. this could have been because the currupted file might have been making the client misread the graphics driver or something, i am unsure of... but i am 100% positive that this is the cause and solution of this specific error.

I believe I have this problem so, thanks alot! Just to be sure... when I click START GAME when starting maple, nothing happens. The HackShield wont start, nothing. I do have this problem right?

@chubby I cant read that O_O or is that the point? XD? O_O but generally speaking, figure out the graphic card u have and the manufacturer website(such as nvidia etc) should have a download section for drivers. @sasuke Im not sure, it generally pops up when u try to launch the game pressing startgame and it pops up. but it will usually say "error code: -2147467259 (Unspecified error)." in a popup. @sweviktory Does it give u a popup mentioning this error? if not it could be a different problem. for example it could be a firewall blocking it, or if u have vista it could be the cause(and can prolly be fixed my right clicking going to properties and changing compatability to XP on admin)

I dont have vista and I dont really know if I have a firewall lol o.O But I have tried turning off my anit-virus. Didn't work either.
