Is it worth leaving SW at lvl 12 and max MP recovery instead?

Yep, you can use Dragon Strike in 4th job, a lot more worth it than SW. EDIT: Are you asking this 'cos you can't use normal attacks in transformed state?

rage797Leave energy drain at 12 or w/e instead? Macoroni said: "The reason for getting 11 drain is because drain is, arguably, not a main attack skill. You may or may not use it very often. But the biggest thing is this: Leaving 9 points out of shockwave will cause it to lose 135% damage, while leaving 9 points out of drain will take away 45% damage"

Id master drain, its more efficient towards bossing; on the other hand for SW,its a very slow attack compared to drain which is spamable. Also when xform is mastered you still have to wait some "large" amount of time compared to charging your energy~ Drain is long-ranged,fast,and saves hp pot money, while SW,monsters can KB you etc..etc.. P.S, MpRecovery was already suppose to be mastered in 2nd Job o.o

Well, I thought I wouldn't use it much in the earlier levels, so I maxed Barrel instead. I don't regret my decision or anything. But I do think it might be better to get MP recovery in the long run.

rage797MP recovery would be good in the long run even though some people might say that drain recovers HP/MP, mp recovery recovers 100% mp only taking 10% hp, so you could use MP recovery to recover mp, then drain to recover the lost 10% hp, since I think drain recovers like 20% hp or something like that...idk haven't looked into it since i'm just lvl 45 xD

Not 100% MP.

Level 2: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 60% of the used MP, time required between skills: 65 seconds. Level 3: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 65% of the used MP, time required between skills: 60 seconds. Level 4: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 70% of the used MP, time required between skills: 55 seconds. Level 5: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 75% of the used MP, time required between skills: 50 seconds. Level 6: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 80% of the used MP, time required between skills: 45 seconds. Level 7: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 85% of the used MP, time required between skills: 40 seconds. Level 8: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 90% of the used MP, time required between skills: 35 seconds. Level 9: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 95% of the used MP, time required between skills: 30 seconds. Level 10: Use 10% of Max HP, recover 100% of the used MP, time required between skills: 25 seconds." link

Yes you lose more damage not putting points in Shockwave..but Shockwave is fairly useless later on (other than to mob with a DS+Shockwave glitch combo...which will be fixed anyway) Honestly, Drain is lots of fun, and will be a LOT more useful for a lot longer in your gameplaying. And ALSO...you may not gain a big damage increase from the 9 points, but it's not all about damage. It also heals more, etc.

Yeah I read those too. I was planning on doing the same until I actually tried both shockwave and drain.. I guess the thing is : Shockwave: Pros: High damage to lots of monsters at once ...that's about it. Cons: Requires Transformation. Slow. (before patch) Required the player to be attacking 6 monsters to deal a faster DPM than that of a Blast/SSK combo to your liking. (after patch) No longer compares with the DPM of Energy Blast. Requires an extremely flat map (Sometimes gets stuck on seemingly nothing on the slight curves of a Newt platform) No invincibility frame, causing you to take lots of damage. Drain: Pros: Fast. Decent damage. Heals. Useable in mid-air. (jump attack, allows you to move forward at the same time) Cons: One monster at a time. Requires Energy Charge. I'd say just make up your own mind, it's really not up to anyone else.
