I've currently been trying to install Maple Story on my computer (JMS), I had it on my computer a few months ago, though I just went idle and let the files sit there, when I finally decided to open her up and play her again the patcher told me to download a new setup client, so I did, and when I go to install it I get an error saying this: *A bunch of Japanese characters* C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms (And then a bunch of random questions marks, etc) The file name, Directory Name, or volume label syntax is incorrect (0x7b) And then the options to "Abort" "retry" and "Ignore" (Which closes the setup). This is quite troublesome since I have searched and can find nothing by the name of syntax. I'm still searching, but any help with this? Its becoming quite troublesome. Thanks!

wanna try re-making shortcut?
Slasher86 05/13/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Well here's another thing I did. I did delete all of the JMS files. (Manually) There's only one file that for some strange reason I can't delete. Including the shortcut, so in turn I wouldn't be able to remake the shortcut.

try get your hands on a freeware called applocale it will run the program in its intended unicode. also try to see if your computer has the correct unicode installed to run and use japanese(or asian) fonts. i dont know if this will work, but it should be something you can try.

You aren't exactly computer literate, are you? Trying to sound smart by using syntax? It isn't working. You need to change your computer's region code to Japanese. It does you no good, however, if you can't read at least basic Japanese, because if you want to run JMS, your computer's region code needs to be Japan. This setting can be found in the control panel. However, doing this will change a lot of applications to be in Japanese, instead of english. Installers may run in Japanese, and so may some programs. Make sure you save the installer to your desktop, and have the JMS folder installed someplace other than your program files folder. That will mess it up too.

Ryuzaku818, I find myself quite computer literate. Its why I was so puzzled as to why nothing was working, including your advice, the only thing I didn't do you said was move it out of the program file folder. ShawShaws advice i'll try as well if all else fails. Ryuzaki, I can understand Japanese, and my entire computer has been in Japanese for the past 5 months. Its not a problem-.- I'm just a little puzzled as to why I installed it perfectly 5 months ago, and 5 months later after barely touching anything it doesn't work. Anyway, thanks for the advice guys, more tips are definatly appreciated!

Actually i had the same problem, but my solution was (on XP) just to change the language settings into Japanese, which allows you to write in jap and english. :F

It's probably that one file that you can't delete. What windows are you using. If you have xp or lower get unlocker and kill process on that one file and delete it.

I've turned everything in to Japanese-.- I'm currently on Vista, and I have deleted every single Maple Story file now... I've tried freakin everything! I downloaded the installer like three times, got rid of the original Maple Story, got rid of the JMS I downloaded a few months ago deleted manually, turned everything (Region, keyboard, you name it) in to Japanese, yelled at the computer a few times, thrown it across the room, broke down crying (lol). I am using the default Administrator account, I highly doubt that has anything to do with it, but last time I was on my regular account it worked-.- Mabye I'm glitched? Seriously, this is really weird. How the hell am I so stupid btw? I'm asking a question, no need to insult like children.

I thought this was about the syntax error on a calculator

Did you delete the old JMS or do you still have it? Check and see if you have enough hard drive space... Usually "Abort, Retry, Ignore" is a sign of saying that you don't have enough space to install.
