I'm guessing most of the people who roam this site already know that Windows 7 RC is out (for general public, MSDN and TechNet subscribers already had it)... but has anyone else installed it yet? It looks pretty nice, physically same as Windows 7 Beta, but I noticed that driver support was smoother. For my MacBook Pro, I just installed the drivers just as I would on Vista, whereas the Beta required an extra step. That's a pretty nice plus. Also, VMWare Fusion recognized it as... Windows XP SP3 Pro x64, even though the Beta was recognized as Windows Vista x64. Weird, but I dunno if that's significant. Anyways, screenies: Using Aero Peek Resource usage (with Digsby, Kaspersky and EADM running in background)

wow i fail.... i formatted to xp and accidentally deleted the wrong partition and ended up deleting the partition which had all my steam games, my game isos and backups, my movies, my music, and my pictures.... Good thing is i have all those backed up on disks but still a hassle to add those to a partition.

Ouch, I hate working with partitions for that reason, deleting the wrong one is horrible. And yeah, driver support seems to be a lot better, internet and graphics worked from the start after I got internet, and everything from Vista drivers work on Windows 7. I have yet to try Virtual XP though.

My sound completely fails. Skype won't recognise my microphone, I have to keep switching between 5.1 and some other speaker configuration in TF2 to get the sound level to stay normal and my motherboard's driver CD which has the Rampage Formula's SoundMAX drivers won't run on Windows 7 for some reason. Another thing that's bugging me is that every time I minimize MSN and open it up again the window is in a totally different position and it's much smaller so I have to resize and move it every single time :F

Ouch, quite a few bugs it seems. I was gonna get WLM too, so maybe I can see if it behaves the same way. But for me, my Realtek audio drivers worked fine. I guess this is why it's still just RC, lol.

If anyone can find a Rampage Formula's SoundMAX driver database or something I'll give them +v on IRC :D

K back to w7 lol. Decided to have vista as a Main OS with a 50gig partition dedicated to windows 7. The new wallpaper on 7 is crazy. link

Yeah, those wallpapers are pretty nice, and by default rotating every 30 minutes is interesting... though, those sound schemes at first made me think my speakers broke x_x

Kid24 said: " and finally windows has a built in magnifier like mac osx." Hm, never used magnifier in OS X or Windows 7, but I'm feeling pretty comfortable in Windows 7 now, if not for the fact that it has a harder time keeping cool in Windows, I'd use it about as much as OS X.

Can this somehow be used for system builders? :D
Kid24 05/12/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Chickenz said: "Can this somehow be used for system builders? :D" yes it works fine for system builders. Just make sure it has drivers but if your mobo uses vista drivers, most likely it would auto detect all the drivers. The RC expires next year in like June so you have a year of using it at least for FREE!
