why mainstream music sucks

Turning on the radio today, one is bombarded with a wave of garbage. It is virtually impossible to differentiate between any of the bands currently on the radio. A great majority of them spew out the same garbage junk after year. Innovation is frowned upon because it does not bring in any money; the formula that works is the formula that the band will most likely to stick with for the rest of its career. Back in the 60s, while it was true that some bands were formed as a way to earn a quick dollar, successful bands at least tried to experiment with their sound and music. The Beatles, unarguably the most successful band ever, started their career producing simple, catchy pop songs. However, instead of abiding by the maxim of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," they chose to move onto more sophisticated fare, as evidenced by their work post-"Rubber Soul". Other bands deemed classic today, such as Pink Floyd, The Who, and The Rolling Stones, were similar in this respect, broadening their artistic visions once they had reached a level of success. Unfortunately, such practices do not exist today. Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Nickleback, et al., still sound the same as they did a few years ago. The Jonas Brothers, as long as teen fangirls keep going crazy for them, are not going to change their sound anytime soon. As long as this cycle continues, the 2000s will be remembered for nothing but the rise of trash.
