I don't understand how 4th job skills work

Anyway, I still don't get how they work. What do mastery books do? Lets say I have a mastery book 30 for Genesis. If a lvl 120 bishop uses it would they get lvl 30 in genesis instantly (I mean maxed gene)? How does it work? I need to know so I can get a TT 30 or add to it or w/e.

When you first get your skillbook, all of the skills have max level of 10. That means, they have 0, but you can put up to 10 points in them. If you use skillbooks, it can raise the max level of the skill to 20 or 30.

once you get a skill to lvl 5 you can use a lvl 20 book and it will raise points u can add to that skill to 20 then once its 15 use a 30 book to be able to add points up to 30

Mastery books unlock skill levels, but does not actually set the level of that skill to the level unlocked. Skill books add skills to your skillset, which starts at 3 core skills and Maple Warrior/Hero for each class, but sets their mastery level at 10.

What everyone else said. They can also fail like scrolls. I think lvl 20 is 70% and lvl 30 is 50%.

Using a skill book doesnt mean that you have maxed the skill. If the skill book passes, then the lvl capacity of your skill will be increased. *note You still have to level to get AP to distribute to the skill.

it increases the limit of the points u can put in. By default, all 4th job skills can only have 10 points in (4 levels gets u 12 SP so like every 4 levels would would "max" your current skill) But if you want to put more points in, u find a book, pray it works, then u can continue putting points in

1. You get to 4th job and you get 3 core skills 2. You do several quests in order to get more skills 3. All of the skills start in lvl 0 and you can put up to 10 points in them 4. When the skill is lvl 5-10, you can buy a lvl 20 mastery book, use it and then it has 70% to work. If it works- you can add points up to lvl 20. Of it doesn't- nothing happens and you have to buy another one. 5. If the skill has 30 lvls (some skills like maple warrior have only 20 lvls) - you can use another mastery book (a different one, lvl 30 mastery book) when the skill is lvl 15-20 which has 50% to work. If it works, you can continue to add up to 30 points- and that's all.

The mastery books are like scrolls, they give a certain success rate. So if you use a Level 20 mastery book then you have a 70% chance of increasing your master level to 20. If you're using a Level 30 mastery book then you have a 50% chance of increasing the mastery level to 30. And if you fail your skill gets destroyed! :O Loljk, your skill doesn't get affected at all if it fails.

a lvl 120 bishop cannot use gene 30 because the current level of the skill needs to be 15 before you use it, apart from the fact you need to have passed genesis 20 before you use genesis 30... its quite simple really. i believe logicdagr8 said it best.
