Chandelier in GPQ?

I have a very silly question but please forgive me. This week my guild was doing its first GPQ (..not our first ever but the first with my new guild) and we happened upon a portal. On the map where someone sacrifices themselves there is a column to the left with a crack. Once the door is open pushing up on that takes you above where the people are killing Ergoth. Those up there receive no damage from Ergoth (just from some spikes up there if they run into them). People hit something that looks like crank, winch and the chandelier above Ergoth moves. Does this actually do anything? The second time through we sent those that normally die right off up there (and in case Jamie reads this) we also send a dk up who didnt want to die since he was close to lvling.

I think it is suppost to stop the boss healing itself.. i don't know it if does but thats what my guild told me
