Hey everyone, There has been a lot of controversy regarding the best build for an Ice / Lightning Mage, reason being we have many useful skills to choose from, thus making the decision very difficult, and this has also been the case for me. After researching all over Basil Forums, interrogating some Archmages, and staring at skill descriptions on Hidden-Street for I don't know how many hours, I have come up with a build that is a good compromise between all of the other builds floating out there. I have to warn you that the build quite unorthodox and therefore any criticism without any information to back it up will not be appreciated. Also keep in mind that this build is for the average I/L Mage (i.e. most of us do not have EW7 at our disposal). It is also for Mages that may or may not hit 4th job and still wants to have enough skills to play with. Skill Build Level 70: Ice Strike: 1 Level 71: Ice Strike: 3 Level 72: Ice Strike: 3 Level 73: Ice Strike: 3 Level 74: Ice Strike: 3 Level 75: Ice Strike: 3 Level 76: Ice Strike: 3 Level 77: Ice Strike: 3 Level 78: Ice Strike: 3 Level 79: Ice Strike: 3 Level 80: Ice Strike: 2, Element Amp: 1 Level 81: Element Amp: 2, Magic Booster: 1 Level 82: Magic Booster: 3 Level 83: Magic Booster: 3 Level 84: Magic Booster: 3 Level 85: Magic Booster: 1, Element Amp 2 Level 86: Element Amp: 3 Level 87: Element Amp: 3 Level 88: Element Amp: 3 Level 89: Element Amp: 3 Level 90: Element Amp: 3 Level 91: Element Amp: 3 Level 92: Element Amp: 3 Level 93: Element Amp: 3 Level 94: Element Amp: 1, Seal 2 Level 95: Seal 3 Level 96: Seal 3 Level 97: Seal 3 Level 98: Seal 3 Level 99: Magic Booster: 3 Level 100: Magic Booster: 3 Level 101: Magic Booster: 3 Level 102: Magic Composition: 3 Level 103: Magic Composition: 3 Level 104: Magic Composition: 3 Level 105: Magic Composition: 3 Level 106: Magic Composition: 3 Level 107: Magic Composition: 3 Level 108: Magic Composition: 3 Level 109: Magic Composition: 3 Level 110: Magic Composition: 3 Level 111: Magic Composition: 3 Level 112: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 113: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 114: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 115: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 116: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 117: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 118: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 119: Slow: 2, PR: 1 Level 120: Slow: 1, PR: 2 Total Point Distribution [Ice Strike] - 30 - MP -50; Basic attack 90, mastery 60%, attack range 200% [Element Amplification] - 30 - MP -200%; Magic attack +135% [Seal]- 14 - MP -24; 77% success rate for 17 seconds [Magic Composition]- 30 - MP -22; Basic attack 140, mastery 60%, freezes enemy for 2 seconds [Partial Resistance]- 10 - 50% resistance against ice/lightning attacks [Booster]- 20 - HP -30, MP -25; Casting speed +2 for 200 seconds [Slow]- 18 -(with the one extra point in 2nd job placed in there as well) - MP -16; Speed -36 for 36 seconds Explanation It is obvious why Ice Strike and Element Amplification will be maxed in the build, so I will not go into that. I chose to max out Magic Composition due to its decent damage, as

I think it's a good build. It looks strange having several skills not maxed, but you really don't *need* them to be. They all serve their purpose. Although, I would personally finish maxing booster before seal. Level 94: Element Amp 1, Magic Booster 2 Level 95: Magic Booster 3 Level 96: Magic Booster 3 Level 97: Magic Booster 1, Seal 2 Level 98: Seal 3 Level 99: Seal 3 Level 100: Seal 3 Level 101: Seal 3 Seal is unnecessary before 101, or for me it was at least.

RE: I chose to max out Magic Composition due to its decent damage, as well as quicker casting speed than Thunder Spear (I'm a fan of fast damage, not necessarily high damage), and lastly because it can freeze. You can, however, replace the skill with Thunder Spear if you do not plan to get to 4th job at all. In my opinion (and many other's opinion), Thunder Spear is handy for deal high damage, but it casts too slowly and it gets replaced by Chain Lightning almost 10 levels after. Magic Composition should be sufficient for 3rd job. Please read carefully before commenting. Also, to the first poster: You are right, I would probably max Booster before Seal as well. I shall fix that.

Ooh that seems like a build to consider. I understand that 77%-chance seal might seem like it's quite reliable , but personally for me I don't think anyone should have it less than a 90% chance. Say at Newts for example (the right hand side of the top platform) , I rely on my maxed seal not to get bashed around by their magic attack . Also when Nest Golems spawn: Sometimes you'll accidentally hit the one furthest to your left as soon as it spawns , knocking it out of your ice-strike range. Their m. atk is unavoidable and you really wanna be able to seal it off as well as the other 3-4 newts before they 'defrost' or risk being knocked around away from your sniping spot. Using seal once or twice in order to make sure all are sealed is much more reliable than having to button-mash 5 times to make sure they're all sealed. To me , it's just a matter of efficiency . It's a similar matter at Wyverns too , imo - especially on the bottom platform , or if you're mobbing more than 6 on the middle 2 platforms. I was originally planning to max comp as well , but seeing as I don't think I'll be changing training areas until 4th job , I don't think I'll max it any longer. The only time I use it at the moment is to KB Nest Golems - and it works 100% of the time at level 22. Quite possibly , I'll be putting the rest of the points into PR or something . Tbh I regret putting points into Comp before Booster (maxed booster would've helped so much more ! xD) , but unlike aeroedge , I had no problem with maxing seal before booster :] . No reason really - just my training style never really had a problem with lvl 11 booster (before newts haha) and seal really helped out. If it's passed off that way , just wanted to say I'm not picking your post to bits . Just giving my input and experience x] . Lvl 18 slow seems fine btw - mine's only lvl 3 at the moment and yet party members seem to love it :3 .

Scary thing is, that's my exact build right now xD The only difference is that I put in the skill points in a different order than you, but the total is identical
