There was a man in the center of the street. He was a simple man, he wasn�t very bright, but he was honest, and he was caring. He looked confused, yet with an oddly placed grin on his face. He stared admiringly at the flock of birds perched on the street lights, and he wanted to go to them, to hold and prize them as his own. The man admired and loved the birds for their possession of endless liveliness, and the simple tunes they always sung. First the tiny birds sang, then the other birds. �Tweet�, the man thought. A much louder, long lasting noise was added to the concert of the birds. The man felt the ground rumble, the constant tone got louder, approaching him. It made a honking noise, something a giant bird might make, thought the man. �Honk�, the man chuckled to himself some more. �That�s not a bir-� Darkness. A shrill cry. Pain. Crying. A warm hand touched his arm, filling him, caressing his soul. But only for a second, then� Nothing.

The man is actually a mentally retarded person, and the "shrill cry" was his elderly mother. I didn't clarify this very well, but I guess I never really meant to.

A story there days woudn't appeal to us because it's apparently 'depressing'. Almost anything with metalanguage makes society think "Wow... this is so touching, I just need to reed more blah blah blah".

A main point I meant to point out is that people get caught up in their happiness, only for it to be ripped away... Yes, it can be "depressing", but it is a sad truth of life.
