Soo i just recently became an outlaw in which made me take a look back at my old 3rd job build for me i found some things that i did not find very practical in the standard build mainly in the earlier levels it state's: Whatever the guide on Basil is called said: " 77: +1 Triple Fire (20) [MAX], +1 Gaviota (01), +1 Cooling Effect (01) 78: +3 Cooling Effect (04) 79: +3 Cooling Effect (07) 80: +3 Cooling Effect (10) 81: +3 Cooling Effect (13) 82: +3 Cooling Effect (16) 83: +3 Cooling Effect (19) 84: +3 Cooling Effect (22) 85: +3 Cooling Effect (25) 86: +1 Cooling Effect (26), +2 Fire Burner (02) 87: +3 Fire Burner (05) 88: +3 Fire Burner (08) 89: +3 Fire Burner (11) 90: +3 Fire Burner (14) 91: +3 Fire Burner (17) 92: +3 Fire Burner (20) 93: +3 Fire Burner (23) 94: +3 Fire Burner (26) 95: +2 Fire Burner (29) 96: +1 Fire Burner (30) [MAX], +1 Homing (01), +1 Octopus (01)" The main thing i noticed was that Ice Splitter is being put very early into the build right after Burst and taking it 9 levels to max which in my opinion isn't really worth it, if you look at the stats for it at level 26 it is very weak compared to Flamethrower. 'So you get to freeze some monster's' which in my opinion is really nice sounding at maps with uncontrollable mobs such as Windraiders, BUT, you dont have to. If you DO plan on early newties then sure why not get it, but what about other key training spots such as most of El Nath, Kents(Blue) , Wyverns, Loads of Showa bosses / leaders. When it really comes down to it, if you need Splitter just to survive that early then you're obviously at the wrong training spot. I believe that Flame is highly underestimated in terms of power and that Freezer is being massly exaggerated as a "survivability" skill that you just cant live without it. Numbers (kids cheering) :D : So the build states that you leave splitter alone for a while after level 26: Ice Splitter Level 26: MP -35; damage 122%; attack up to 6 monsters. (And dont forget that it can 'Freeze') Flamethrower Level 26: MP -35; damage 148%, attack up to 6 monsters. ( "affected monster will keep receiving damage for a short period of time.") So lets see, Well... it looks like Flame wins over shear, raw power with 26 more % on its back, both take 35mp and attack 6 monsters . Oh wow and would you look at that Invisible Shot is still in use for smaller mobs due to more power over Splitter. That sure as heck doesnt get me excited for using Splitter even though it stalls a few enemies for a short amount of time. I am not putting down Splitter; i believe it is a very good skill , Only when you get to a high level . I myself look forward to being able to see its full potential BUT i do not believe that it should be first before Flamethrower only because you need a Decent mob move that does decent damage. I am not saying that it should'nt be maxed i am just saying that it should be maxed later when you actually need it. My build is that i will max Flame first THEN Splitter. Discuss or Fl

Wow finnaly someone who has seen the light of Flamethrower, i give you props for someone to understand the importance of the skill. To anyone who will just dis this build maybe you should Think about it rather that randomly assume that "Standard" will always be better. I have used this build and i have never regretted it.

So... you finnaly did it. Congratulations. The numbers are remarkable for this build i cant belive it, wow i thought you were lying when you were online. Dang this makes me want to start over and use your build. Flame definatly an extremly under-rated skill and i do not see why. I highly recommend this build.

Grrrrr. Just when I think I have everything planned out, I come onto basil and get my mind changed. Oh well, I guess I still have 3 more levels to think about witch skill I want more. Edit: Lol, I spelled "which" wrong.

Splitter is not for mobbing, it's for freezing so you can pummel them with Burstfire and Octo/Gaviota. This is the most efficient method of training. Flame itself is far too weak to be good at anything. You're going to waste massive pots and level slowly if all you do is seek out mobs that you can hit with Fire or Ice or both. Ice replaces BlankShot, which prepares you for Octo/Gaviota. Flame does nothing but burden you at those levels. Did you know, that pure flame on a mob of 6 is actually weaker DPM than Burstfire on neutral mobs? It is really only a decent mobbing combo when used in conjunction with Ice on mobs that not immune, and even then it's not impressive. I use Fire in conjunction with Airstrike and other stuff in 4th job, but it is not worth maxing right after Burstfire for 3rd job.

The way it sounds, the flame + ice combo pales in comparison to battleship torpedo anyway. So you will only be using this up to about 13x or 14x depending on how you build your corsair. My outlaw is 102 right now, and I still have 0 points into flamethrower. I have been at newties for probably 15 levels or so. Flamethrower is probably the least important skill for me at newties because hitting one, maybe two, with it is definitely not worth the time. I got my outlaw up there before this "standard" build was out, so I was thinking pure newties build because I can handle the boredom of the same map for 40+ lvls.

I like how you took the time to mention ice resistant monsters. What about Red Kents, Red Wyverns, Red Turtle thingys.

I love the flamethrower build. I maxed flamethrower right after maxing burst fire. Last time I checked, I got 25% every hour at windraiders. It's not as good as newties, but it's more fun than standing at the same spot doing the same things over and over again.

Did you know that when using Flamer CORRECTLY you have more DPM if you use it in succes with a combination of Burst Fire and Gaviota? I am very content using the Flamer build, its faster than my friends down by Newties they regret Standard; i dont regret this build one bit.

Thanks for the support i guess but are you sure you're calculations are corect? Because even i doubt that. And i am not saying that Flamer is better DPM than anything i am just asying that you need a Decent mobbing move, Freezer does nothing for my buddy down at WR's which he rarely uses over there.
frei468 04/10/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
That's because by the time you get ice splitter, you can probably kill WR in about 3 sets of burstfire maybe (not sure). It would actually slow down your training just to freeze them.

I hope they bring out an update to raise its damage....

Crovis said: "I hope they bring out an update to raise its damage...." Its only a 3rd job skill though.
Efemera 04/10/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Crovis said: "I hope they bring out an update to raise its damage...." Don't need one. If you really want a strong Flamethrower max Amp in 4th job. Flamethrower is a really awful mobbing skill on its own. It's hard to mob with it without Ice Splitter because it has little range, forcing you to stand up close to monsters, which screws up your ability to Burst Fire. Flamethrower without using another skill in between to compensate for the cooldown is weaker than spamming Burst Fire alone. The range issue will be addressed in the skill updates, though. I use FT for its zero minimum range and not needing to be in ship. It's not bad as a finisher or a quick attack when a monster spawns on me. Other than that, it's not a very good skill at all.
Jazter 04/10/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
You could jump Burst Fire to avoid the minimum range issue. Most 3rd job monsters aren't very tall.
