I like your original style better, uhm, I'm going to be evil here and critique you alil. The eye is too big, not the lids but the eye itself. The hair should have more shape to it. The bandages look flat. Not trying to be offensive, just helpful.

everything is good except for the position and size of the eyes. move his showing up towrads the center of his face a bit and shrink it a bit. cause it looks really awkward. also the clothing around his neck should be more poofier, but that's just me.

the bandage on the forehead doesn't make sense. you need to draw it so it's wrapped around the head several times in order to make it look non-sloppyyyy. (the bandage looks as if it's slipping...)
