Paint.net or photoshop i personally believe is a way better smoother pixel editer, i only use paint to piece things together, such as custom hairstyles or custom face expressions.

It's not bad... but editing sprite sizes can be hazardous. First of all, use Paint to make sprites larger... it works very well, believe it or not. Only make sprites larger by even intervals, however (In Paint, use stretch/skew and stretch by 200, 300, etc.) or they look terrible.
